Master the Science of Bearings

Enduro Bearings: Engineered for the Ride

Since 1998, Enduro Bearings has been the industry leader in bicycle-specific performance. Every bearing is purpose-built for its application—featuring larger balls and deeper grooves designed to thrive in real-world cycling conditions.

From specialized seals to application-specific greases, Enduro offers a ‘Good, Better, Best’ range to suit every rider’s budget and performance needs:

  • Affordable Performance: High-quality ABEC 3 and ABEC 5 chromium steel.
  • Ultimate Durability: Corrosion-resistant 440C stainless steel.
  • The Gold Standard: Our premium, lifetime-guaranteed XD15 ceramic-hybrid series.

Whether it’s a suspension pivot, a hub, or a bottom bracket, Enduro ensures your ride stays smooth, fast, and reliable.

When is it time to replace?

If you feel unwanted play, hear rattling, or sense ”notchy” rotation, it’s time for a refresh. New bearings can make an old bike feel brand new. To ensure a smooth, effortless replacement, Enduro offers precision shop tools designed to handle every step of the process with ease.

The Science of Loads

A bearing’s job is to support loads and reduce friction. In cycling, bearings must withstand:

  • Radial Load: Vertical force perpendicular to the axle.
  • Axial Load: Side-loading forces along the axle.
  • Combined Load: A mix of both—present in almost every part of a bicycle.

To ensure reliability, Enduro’s lab subjects bottom bracket bearings to 30 kg loads over a million cycles, simulating real-world pedaling stress.

Balls & Races: The Quality Grade

Bearing balls are rated from 2000 down to 3—the lower the number, the closer the ball is to a perfect sphere.

  • Enduro Standard: We use Grade 25 or better.
  • Elite Performance: Our top-tier bearings feature Grade 3 balls, which—especially when combined with ceramic materials—reduce friction to near zero.

Why Deep Grooves Matter

Bicycle bearings are ”slow-speed” (rarely exceeding 200 RPM) but face high impact and side loads. Enduro uses the largest possible balls and deep-groove races to keep the movement straight, reducing friction and preventing premature wear.

Angular Contact (A/C) Bearings: The Game Changer

Standard bearings can struggle with side loads, but Enduro’s Angular Contact (A/C) Bearings feature races set at a 15-degree angle.

  • Constant Preload: The balls stay in perfect contact with the races at all times.
  • Eliminate Brake Rub: A/C bearings prevent the micro-movements that cause disc rotors to drag during hard cornering.
  • 2.5x Longer Life: Due to their superior load handling, A/C bearings can last more than twice as long as standard radial bearings.

Look for the ”ACB” designation for the ultimate upgrade in hubs, bottom brackets, and headsets.

ABEC 3 & ABEC 5: High Performance Steel Bearings

Enduro’s ABEC 3 and 5 bearings are crafted from premium 52100 Chromium Steel, paired with low-friction seals and specialized greases. They offer an exceptional balance of performance and value, making them ideal for pedals, hubs, and bottom brackets.

Beyond the ABEC Rating

The ABEC scale measures tolerances, such as the roundness of the races and the smoothness of the ball tracks. While ABEC is a common industry benchmark, it doesn’t tell the whole story for bicycles. Since bike bearings are ”slow-speed” (rarely exceeding 200 RPM) but face high impact loads, factors not covered by ABEC are often more critical:

  • Ball diameter and quantity.
  • Groove depth.
  • Surface finish quality.
  • Seal design and grease type.

The Enduro Difference

A high ABEC rating alone doesn’t guarantee longevity. To achieve higher ABEC ratings more easily, some manufacturers use shallower grooves and smaller balls to pass noise tests. However, a shallow groove offers only half the support of an Enduro bearing.

By prioritizing deeper grooves and larger balls, Enduro ABEC bearings are significantly stronger and can last up to 50% longer than standard alternatives.

Superior Lubrication

All Enduro ABEC bearings are packed with Mobil XHP 222 multi-purpose grease. This high-grade lubricant:

  • Resists water washout: Won’t emulsify or ”shatter” under pressure.
  • Minimal drag: Ensures smooth rolling without significantly increasing resistance.
  • All-weather performance: Maintains its properties in both extreme heat and freezing cold.

MAX® Suspension Bearings: Maximum Load, Zero Compromise

MAX bearings are ”beefed-up” versions of our steel bearings, manufactured from either 52100 Chromium Steel or 440C Stainless Steel for superior corrosion resistance and impact absorption.

Full Complement Design

Unlike standard bearings, MAX bearings do not use a retainer (cage). Instead, they feature a Full Complement design, meaning the bearing is packed entirely with balls. This is specifically engineered for the high-stress, short-rotation movement (often just 45°) of suspension pivots.

Hydrostatic Protection

MAX bearings are 90% filled with high-pressure grease that stays exactly where it’s needed. This heavy-duty lubricant does more than just reduce friction—it acts as a structural shock absorber between the balls and the races, preventing metal-on-metal contact during heavy hits.

Built for Strength, Not RPM

Because of the increased number of balls, MAX bearings have higher rolling resistance and may feel ”stiff” when spun by hand compared to a hub bearing. However, this design allows them to handle 35% more load capacity than standard bearings. This makes them the undisputed industry standard for suspension pivots.

You can identify these by the ”MAX” designation and red seal

XD-15: The Ultimate Performance Standard

XD-15 bearings represent the absolute pinnacle of bicycle technology. Named after the nitrogen-enriched XD-15 steel (also known as Cronidur 30), these bearings offer extraordinary wear resistance and are virtually immune to corrosion.

Key Features of XD-15:

  • Ceramic Hybrid Power: By combining XD-15 races with Si3N4 Ceramic balls in an angular contact (A/C) configuration, these bearings are designed for riders chasing every single watt.
  • Gets Faster Over Time: Unlike steel bearings that wear out, XD-15 races actually become smoother and faster as the ceramic balls polish the raceway surfaces during use.
  • Elite Lubrication: Packed with Kluber Isoflex grease—an ultra-fine, high-speed lubricant that mimics the low resistance of oil while providing the protection and weather resistance of a premium grease.

Identification: Look for the CH, CO, or CXD designations.

Enduro Seals: The Perfect Balance of Speed and Protection

Enduro Bearings uses specialized seal designs to protect your bearings from the elements while optimizing performance.

LLB Seals (Light Contact)

The LLB is a double-lip, light-contact seal designed for longevity and low friction. By making light contact with the inner race groove, it provides an effective barrier against dirt and moisture while maintaining minimal rolling resistance.

  • Best For: Hubs, bottom brackets, and headsets where speed and efficiency are priorities.

LLU Seals (Full Contact)

The LLU is a double-lip, full-contact seal that provides a more robust, impenetrable barrier compared to the LLB. The tighter seal ensures that contaminants stay out and premium grease stays in, even over long periods of heavy use.

  • Best For: Suspension pivots and riders facing extreme conditions (mud, water, grit).

Dual-Seal Hybrid (LLU/LLB)

For the ultimate balance of protection and performance, Enduro offers bearings with LLU/LLB dual seals. These feature a heavy-duty LLU seal on the outside (facing the elements) and a light-contact LLB seal on the inside for smoother rotation.

The ”Grease Barrier” Effect

When an Enduro bearing begins to spin, a small amount of grease naturally migrates into the seal grooves. This creates a secondary grease barrier that enhances the bearing’s waterproof properties, ensuring long-lasting, trouble-free operation.
